Dear Juncker, more integration is not the answer to EU woes

The EU's head honcho, Jean-Claude Juncker, was in the news last week for the televisual highlight of all good Europeans: his annual State of the Union address.

It was a sombre affair, unlikely to cheer up anyone's Wednesday morning. It sounded like a eulogy, and Juncker should at least be commended for his honesty. Addressing members of the European Parliament, the former Prime Minister of Luxembourg declared “I'm not going to stand here and say that everything is fine.”

He continued, “Never before have I seen such little common ground between our member states.....never before have I seen so much fragmentation.”

*Read more*: Germany's central bank chief warns EU against more integration post-Brexit

The latest polling of public sentiment in EU member states will do little to improve Juncker's mood.

According to Pew Research a significant majority of Europeans disapprove of the EU's handling of economic issues and an overwhelming majority are unhappy with the handling of the refugee issue. In Greece, France and Spain a majority of people have an unfavourable view of the EU – as do 48 per cent of Germans.

It is against this backdrop that Juncker reached for the favourite response of a European bureaucrat assessing the project's woes: he called for 'more Europe' and deeper integration.

This reaction has already elicited sighs of exasperation from elsewhere in Europe.

Yesterday, the head of Germany's central bank, Jens Weidmann, told reporters that “the usual instincts of the EU institutions to answer cries with 'more Brussels', more integration, no longer resonates with the public,” adding “integration cannot be an end in itself, it has to make sense.” Germany's central banker can see what Juncker refuses to acknowledge.

*Read more*: No10 hits out at Juncker's "borders worst invention" claims

A sense that the project no longer makes sense has driven alarming numbers of continental European voters into the arms of hard-left and far-right parties. Juncker is unlikely to win back their support with initiatives such as a pledge to provide “free wireless internet access around the main centres of public life by 2020” - a highlight of his speech.

Instead, he needs to understand the limitations of integration and to focus instead of cooperation between sovereign states. A failure to do so will only deepen the division that he so eloquently identified in his State of the Union speech. Reported by City A.M. 11 hours ago.

Junck(er) mail: Are EU Digital Single Market proposals bad for advertisers?

$
0
0
The EU Commission’s Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy promises to “tear down regulatory walls” and “make the EU’s Single Market fit for the digital age”. But its current wording looks like a bum-deal for advertisers.

Launched last week to coincide with Jean-Claude Juncker’s state of the union address, the latest raft of proposals aim to protect the copyright of news organisations and publishers, both of which have a symbiotic relationship with advertising.

The idea is to ensure publishers get remunerated for their work by putting them in a better position to negotiate the use of their content with online services using or enabling access to it. “I want journalists, publishers and authors to be paid fairly for their work”, said Juncker.

*Read more*: Media groups could get Google payout from EU copyright rules

The Commission’s proposals may not be the good news they appear to be though, especially for media businesses.

Any attempt to regulate the flow of information online could prove to be myopic. If social media sites and news aggregators are forced to pay for content they push, one of two things could happen.

The first involves aggregators. Google, for example, doesn’t profit from disseminating news. It could simply stop providing its news service EU-wide, as it has already done in Spain due to ancillary rights issues. Clearly, this would reduce traffic – and subsequently revenue – for both publishers and advertisers.

The other is the acute focus on media behemoths in the proposals. Advertisers will certainly still make money from the biggest players, but as Ian Twinn, director of public affairs at ISBA quite rightly says, these proposals could “reduce access for citizens who do not read the big publications”.

*Read more*: Digital Single Market: The impact for marketers

Advertising plays a key role in funding digital content, services and applications, making them widely available at little or no cost, as well as driving growth in the digital sector.

“As written, it [DSM] appears to consolidate power to the big news providers who will be able to claw back cash every time their copyrighted news appears on a search engine... but the smaller digital ‘newspapers’ will not get the same benefit”, said Twinn, adding that “in turn this may increase cost and advertisers may lose the chance to reach those lost readers”.

Of course the DSM is not law, it’s an aspiration around which future EU laws may be crafted, and is years away from becoming binding on member states.

Tearing down walls to herald a new age of European harmonisation certainly isn’t new, and while their intentions are laudable, at this proposal stage, perhaps the EU should think twice before bringing in the bulldozers.

*ESI Group Announces VA One 2016*

*Breakthrough Enhancement Provides Unparalleled Turbulent Flow Modeling for Vibro-Acoustic Simulation*

*Paris, France - September 19, 2016 -* ESI Group *, a leading innovator in* Virtual Prototyping *software and services for manufacturing industries, announces the release of* VA One 2016 *. * *VA One is the only full-frequency, single-environment simulation software available for solving a wide range of noise and vibration design challenges in automotive, aerospace, marine and industrial applications. VA One seamlessly combines* Finite Elements *,* Boundary Elements *and* Statistical Energy Analysis *into one flexible modeling environment.*

ESI VA One 2016 optimizes ongoing improvements in multi-core processing to provide significant improvements in overall model run time and overall performance speed, particularly in read, write, and solve steps. It also introduces unique capabilities for flexibly modeling complex loads and is able to robustly address the growing challenge faced by the automotive and aerospace industries to accurately predict wind and other noises due to turbulent flow effects. Excessive wind noise, which is generated by vehicles moving at high speed, is more than simply an acoustic annoyance to end users: excessive wind noise negatively impacts phone calls and applications using voice recognition inside the vehicle. Reducing wind noise as much as possible is thus crucial to allow optimal performance of various in-car communications.

Key highlights of VA One 2016 :

*Unique Enhancement Provides the Ability to Accurately Apply Complex Aero-Vibro-Acoustic (AVA) Loads to SEA (Statistical Energy Analysis) Models  *

Until now, SEA models excited by turbulent flow, or other partially correlated sources, were restricted to fitting analytical models; with consequent loss of important details of the loading.  This left users the choice of accepting a loss of acoustic prediction accuracy or moving to more costly modeling approaches. The General Surface Pressure (GSP) enhancement in VA One 2016 removes this roadblock by allowing acoustic modelers to directly apply wavenumber spectra to SEA models. Taking advantage of the pre-processing capabilities of VA One, users can define the loads directly from CFD data or from their in house tools. Accurate design solutions can be obtained with minimal modeling and computational time. Image: Fluctuating surface pressures on the side glass of the car calculated using OpenFOAM® open source CFD code . Complex, fluctuating surface pressure data can be imported into VA One from nearly any commercial CFD code.

Image: New, robust, easy-to-use tools in the VA One AVA module allow data to be processed and convert the pressures to a wavenumber-frequency spectrum, which can be applied as a load to the vibroacoustic model to predict interior wind noise.

*Enhanced Acoustic Predictive Capabilities for FE Models with Complex Flow*

Addressing another important noise source, VA One 2016 provides enhanced non-uniform acoustic FE mean flow predictive capabilities to accurately model the effect of flow on muffler Transmission Loss (TL) via automated OpenFOAM ® analysis for reactive mufflers or when porous, sound absorbing muffler materials such as fiberglass are present. The greater the muffler Transmission Loss is, the quieter the muffler and exhaust. The challenge is to model the complex, three-dimensional airflow in mufflers. This is addressed by VA One 2016 by providing a high-level, automated solution for taking into account the flow effect on muffler acoustics when complex geometries, perforated elements or porous materials are present.

*Performance and Productivity Enhancements*

VA One 2016 delivers a wide array of overall performance and speed improvements that specifically address the aerospace, automotive, marine and industrial markets.  Improvements specifically address multi-core BEM (Boundary Element Method) calculations and customers in automotive and related industrial markets will benefit from the new BEM improvements in Radiated Noise Calculations for modeling exterior noise generated, for example, by vehicle powertrains, consumer electronics, and industrial generators. Speed increases up to a factor of fifty have been achieved in certain complex BEM multi-core calculations. This enhancement in calculation speed has also been particularly welcomed by the aerospace industry where users seek ongoing performance improvements to BEM modeling and support for calculation-intense stress failure predictions.

Aerospace and marine customers will benefit from improved SEA modelling of ribbed panels, such as used in lower hull sections for marine applications in the fuselages of aircraft.

"Customers have asked us for support in solving larger models, especially Boundary Element Models , which require a long time to compute, particularly for higher frequencies.  These new enhancements to VA One take advantage of multi-core processing on individual machines as well as distributed machines (clusters) and provide significant improvements in overall model run time," said *Chad Musser* , Director of Vibro-Acoustics Solution at ESI Group. "With the 2016 release of VA One , ESI delivers important enhancements that give our customers a competitive cost and time advantage in bringing innovative products to market. Our ability to consistently translate customer needs into software enhancements underscores ESI's position as the industry leader in vibro-acoustic simulation," he added.

India U-16 football team holds Saudi Arabia 3-3 *Panaji:* A last-gasp penalty by Suresh Wangjam kept the hosts' Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship knockout stage dreams alive as they claimed a dramatic 3-3 draw with Saudi Arabia in Group A on Sunday.

Aniket Jadhav struck early for India and Aman Chetri doubled their advantage only for Sulaiman Al Dhuwayhi to restore hope for the Saudis 11 minutes before the interval.

Saudi Arabia's Mali missed from the spot with the last kick of the first half. But Feras Al Brikan's quick-fire brace in the final 10 minutes looked to have won it for the Saudis before captain Wangjam kept India in the tournament at the death.

The hosts will now need to defeat Iran in their final Group A outing on Wednesday to stand any chance of reaching the quarter-finals while the Saudis face the same predicament against the United Arab Emirates.

After the match, India head coach Nicolai Adam said: "It's really difficult for me to say anything after this game - I'm extremely proud of the boys. The support tonight was spectacular. People will now go to work tomorrow and talk about this game, as will people who watched on TV. We have created something.

*New Delhi:* Out-of-favour India batsman Gautam Gambhir on Sunday stoked a fresh controversy asserting that films shouldn't be made on cricketers but on those people who have contributed for the welfare of the country and hence are more "deserving" of biopics.

Ganbhir's comments were seen here as controversial considering they have been made barely days before the release of an eagerly-awaited biopic on the life of India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

In the film, titled "MS Dhoni: The Untold Story", Dhoni's character is being portrayed onscreen by Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput. The film, releasing on September 30, is believed to unfold the rags to riches story of Dhoni and has been shot extensively in Dhoni's hometown of Ranchi.

"I don't believe in biopics on cricketers. I think those people who have contributed more to the country than the cricketers deserve a biopic," Gambrir wrote on Twitter.

"There are lots of people in the country who have done so many noble deeds for the nation. Therefore, biopics should be made on their lives," the Delhi batsman added.

Gambhir reasoned against the practice of making films on cricketers as many other deserving people as there in different spheres of life on whom movies should be made to highlight their achievements.

But the comment could also be viewed as an indirect dig at his former team-mate Dhoni, with whom he is known to have a chequered relationship in the past.

Gambhir was recently omitted from the upcoming Test series against New Zealand despite a flow of runs in the Duleep Trophy.

Biopics on cricketers have earlier been made on Mohammad Azharuddin, named "Azhar" that was released early this year and former South African skipper the late Hansie Cronje, titled "Hansie: A True Story" released in 2008.

A biographical film on Sachin Tendulkar, "Sachin: A Billion Dreams" is also presently under production.

*Wellington:* New Zealand today recalled temperamental allrounder Corey Anderson for the five-match ODI series against India next month and he will play as a specialist batsman.

Experienced pacer Tim Southee, who was ruled out of the forthcoming Test series against India after straining an ankle ligament, has found a place in the 15-member squad, while
Henry Nicholls, who is part of the five-day game squad, has been dropped.

Batsman Anton Devcich, allrounder Jimmy Neesham and wicketkeeper BJ Watling have also been recalled to the squad for the series beginning in Dharamsala on October 16. Anderson last played an international game for New Zealand during the World T20 in India, before a back injury ruled him out of the tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa.

He proved his fitness in three matches for a New Zealand XI against an Emerging XI at Christchurch last week. NZC selector Gavin Larsen said Anderson's rehab would continue to be monitored and praised the allrounder for his work ethic.

"Corey's superb professionalism throughout his rehab process has led to this point, and it's a credit to him and the hard work he¿s put in," said Larsen. "We're excited to have Corey back. He provides power through the middle-order and knows the conditions in India well.

"He's still working on his bowling and we'll continue to monitor that, but for this series he will be used solely as a specialist batsman." Henry Nicholls was dropped from the squad, though Larsen said the Kiwis still have a number of options in the middle-order.

"India conditions are known to be quite harsh, so it's really important that we have cover for all positions. "Luke Ronchi and BJ Watling provides us with wicketkeeping and middle-order cover, while Anton is another spin option for us and can bat anywhere in the order."

"The last time we played ODIs was in the Chappell Hadlee series and victory there helped us reach the world number two ranking. We obviously want to keep growing on that and this series is another massive challenge for us." Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Colin Munro and George Worker were all unavailable for selection due to injury.

*Madrid:* Real Madrid equaled a record set by rival Barcelona as James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema scored in a 2-0 defeat of Espanyol on Sunday in the Spanish league.

It was the 16th straight league win for Madrid, going back to last season, matching Pep Guardiola's Barcelona in the 2010-11 season.

Madrid maintained a three-point lead over Barcelona with its fourth straight league victory this season.

Celta Vigo and Valencia remained winless, while Villarreal stayed near the top thanks to a spectacular goal from near the halfway line by Italian striker Nicola Sansone.

Madrid's victory came despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who were rested by coach Zinedine Zidane.

"What is important is to keep adding points," Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla said. "We are happy because we won again and stayed in the lead."

Madrid is the only team to have won four straight to start the league. Barcelona won 5-1 at Leganes on Saturday to rebound from a 2-1 home loss to Alaves a week ago. Atletico
Madrid routed Sporting Gijon 5-0 to win its second consecutive match and reach eight points, behind third-place Las Palmas, the league's early surprise team.

*New Delhi:* Spain completed a 5-0 whitewash of India in the World Group Play-off match at the RK Khanna DLTA Complex. Coming into the reverse singles with unassailable 3-0 lead, they put doubles specialist Marc Lopez against Sumit Nagal, who came in for Saketh Myneni.

With the reverse singles being reduced to three-set affairs, Lopez took all of three sets before winning the match that was not only a test of fitness and nerves but also swung from one side to the other. Lopez won 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

David Ferrer beat Ramanathan Ramkumar 6-2, 6-2 in the final singles to complete the rout yesterday.

*Spain in World Group*
The win in the tie also signaled the return of five-time Davis Cup winners, Spain, into World Group. And for India, it will be a continuance in the Asia/Oceania Group Stage.*Sumit Nagal*

The 34-year-old Lopez, won his first Grand Slam at Roland Garros this year with Feliciano Lopez, also won the Olympic gold in Rafael Nadal's company. Lopez who hardly ever plays singles these days, gave Nagal, 15 years younger than him, a lesson in grit and fitness.

After coming through a grueling four-setter doubles clash which ended past 11 pm on Saturday after three hours and 20 minutes, Lopez survived the heat and humidity and Nagal's inspired show in the second set.

But into the third set Nagal himself was finding it difficult to even stand. Nagal himself was unsure.

*Watford (UK):* Jose Mourinho admits Manchester United's lack of confidence has contributed to their dismal three-match losing streak.

Mourinho's side slumped to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at Watford yesterday to cap a miserable week that also included losses against Manchester City and Feyenoord.

After winning the first three games of the Mourinho era, United are stuck in a rut and looked painfully short of inspiration in their first defeat against Watford for 30 years.

*Tepid display*
It was a tepid display that recalled the worst moments of Louis van Gaal's reign and Mourinho believes his players are suffering from a lack of belief that takes an extra toll whenever an important moment goes against them.*Jose Mourinho*

"We started the season very well and had good results. I feel the first moment we had a defeat or a difficult situation, some of the boys had a bit of difficulty coping with the negativity," Mourinho said.

"You see Ashley Young, his mentality the happiness and confidence he brought to the game is something more players need to have."

It is the first time a Mourinho team has lost three in a row since he was in charge at Porto in 2002. But Mourinho isn't about to panic because he believes United's woes are only partially self-inflicted and he expects a revival once their luck changes.

"I reflect on three factors from the match, but only one of them I can improve," he said.

"The first factor depends on ourselves, it relates to our individual mistakes and collective mistakes as individual players and as a team. We have to improve something. It is in our hands. The second factor is the referee and I can't control their mistakes. The story of the game is the result and not the situation of the first goal."

*'Best team lost'*
"The third factor is luck, we didn't have it. We were the best team when we lost. Heurelho Gomes made a phenomenal save from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header," said Jose
It was Watford's first victory over United in 30 years.

"It is a important three points to give my players the confidence to go ahead," said Watford manager Walter Mazzarri.

*Kanpur:* Most Indian captains who led Test teams in the post-1970 era will be honoured by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) before the start of India's 500th Test match at Green Park in Kanpur when they take on New Zealand in the first Test on September 22.

The only captain of the pre-1970 era to be invited is Chandu Borde who led India in a Test when the late Nawab of Pataudi was injured on the 1967-68 tour of Australia. As many as 12 captains, including Borde, have given their consent to attend the function. The names missing among the recent captains are Rahul Dravid, who is away with India 'A' team in Australia, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is abroad promoting his biopic, which is set to release on September 30.

*Venkat, Bedi excluded?*
"We are also trying to contact Dhoni, who is abroad for personal reasons. Hopefully, we will hear from him soon," said UPCA secretary Rajeev Shukla in Kanpur yesterday. Gundappa Vishwanath, who captained India in the Board's Golden Jubilee Test match in 1980, is unwell and may not make it to Kanpur, it is learnt. Also missing will be Srinivas Venkataraghavan, who hails from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) led by N Srinivasan and Bishan Singh Bedi, who has always been at war with the Indian cricket board.

Shukla said: "The UPCA in planning to make the occasion memorable by honouring former India captains before the start of India's 500th Test. When asked about the invitation to Azharuddin, who was once banned by BCCI for alleged match fixing, Shukla said: "Azharuddin has been attending BCCI functions in the past and he will be here too." He also said that the state governor Ram Naik, along with BCCI president Anurag Thakur, secretary Ajay Shirke and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary will grace the occasion.

Mumbai's chairman of selectors Milind Rege indicated that the Ranji Trophy champions have paved a path for Virat Kohli & Co to have a smooth ride against the visiting New Zealand team which kick off their Test series against India at Kanpur on Thursday. New Zealand's tour opener against Mumbai ended in a draw at the Kotla in New Delhi yesterday.

Centurion Luke Ronchi provided the tour selectors a welcome headache for the opening Test at Kanpur, but the Kiwis were bowled out by an under-strength Mumbai side for 235 in 66.4 overs.

New Zealand scored 324 for seven in their first innings before their opponents plundered 464 for eight declared with three centurions – Kaustabh Pawar, Suryakumar Yadav and Siddhesh Lad, who scored 100 on the final day of the tie yesterday. The manner in which Mumbai batted against an international side reminded Rege of the city team's 10-wicket win over Australia in 1998 when Sachin Tendulkar scored a double ton.*Siddhesh Lad, who scored an unbeaten hundred for Mumbai against New Zealand yesterday *

"Before this game, I was just hoping that we could match up to an international team, but we have come out on top as true champions. It was a good game for Ranji Trophy preparation as well. The New Zealanders were very serious in this game. You could see they were putting everything into their preparation," remarked Rege, who was impressed with the way the "classy" Armaan Jaffer batted for his 69.

Yesterday, leg-break bowler Parikshit Valsangakar claimed three wickets which included Ronchi, who was stumped by Sufiyan Shaikh. "Valsangakar is also a fine batsman and bats high up for his club while left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil's line and length reminds me of the late Mumbai spinner Ghulam Shaikh (who played under-22 cricket for Mumbai). Royston Dias is a good left-arm fast bowler. There's a fair amount of talent around and there is going to be tough competition for places. All this augers well for our season," said Rege.

*Manchester:* Pep Guardiola insists there is no danger of complacency at Manchester City because his team have not yet achieved anything.

City's superb start under Guardiola continued as they won their eighth successive game in all competitions by thrashing Bournemouth 4-0 in the EPL on Saturday.

Already they have scored 25 goals in the campaign and the manner of their play is earning widespread plaudits, but Guardiola will not allow his players to believe a game will be too easy.

"That is not going to happen when I am there," the Spaniard said. "And don't say it is too easy. I heard from years ago the Premier League is the toughest league and I am going to accept that.

"We have a lot of work (to do) and we are just in September. We have played absolutely nothing. Of course the most important things in our game were much better than in the Sunderland game, but that is what we have to do. Always for the next game we have to try to do it better than the game before."

Having come off after 83 minutes, Costa's injury was confirmed by Bayern's team doctor Volker Braun, but the club gave no details on Sunday of how long the Brazilian will be out for.

*Singapore:* Nico Rosberg paid tribute to his Mercedes engineers yesterday after the team put their Singapore nightmare of 12 months ago behind them.

Rosberg took his third Grand Prix win in a row in his 200th start to snatch back the world championship lead by eight points from teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished third. It was a far cry from just 12 months ago when Hamilton retired and Rosberg trailed in fourth, hopelessly and inexplicably off the pace on Marina Bay Street circuit.

"It really shows that not only do we have the best car but we also have the most competent group of engineers to extract the potential from the best car," Rosberg told reporters after the Singapore Grand Prix.

The 23-corner city-centre track presents a completely different challenge to the previous race in Monza, a ultra high-speed circuit with few corners that places a premium on aerodynamic efficiency and power. "Every weekend they have to change the car, adapting to new circuits and understanding them," Rosberg said.

Red Bull were seen by many in the paddock as pre-race favourites with their emphasis on mechanical grip giving an advantage over the Mercedes who rely on straight line speed and superior horsepower not suited to Singapore.

Rosberg said the fact that he could hold off the fast-charging Daniel Ricciardo at the end of the race to win by 0.4 seconds was a remarkable achievement after being almost a second per lap off the pace a year ago.

"We were absolutely nowhere here behind Red Bull and Ferrari and we came back this year and beat them on their strongest track. So that's really awesome to see that."*Top-10 drivers*

*London:* German football club Borussia Monchengladbach star Mahmoud Dahoud has attracted the interest of English side Liverpool who are set to bid for the attacking midfielder in January.

The Juergen Klopp coached side have an impressive arsenal of attacking weaponry at their disposal currently, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge dovetailing well as a unit.

The quartet have shown this season that on their day they can carve up any opponent, with the outfit winning at Arsenal and Chelsea already in the 2016-17 season.

Dahoud is recognised as a rising star in the Bundesliga and is a relatively regular fixture for the Germany under-21's side also, according to The Express on Saturday.

The report suggests that Liverpool had scouts in attendance to watch the 20-year-old playmaker against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.

*St.John's:* Former West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose has questioned West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) decision to dismiss Phil Simmons as head coach on the eve of the teams series against Pakistan in all formats.

Ambrose, who was fired as bowling consultant under the advice of Simmons in May this year, has criticised the timing as poor, reports CMC.

Simmons, a former West Indies all-rounder, was fired hours before the players boarded a flight for the United Arab Emirates to play Pakistan in three T20s, three ODIs and three Tests.

"The timing is wrong, to be quite blunt," declared Ambrose on Saturday. Simmons' sacking has triggered angry responses from an increasing number of cricketers including Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy.

"If you weren't happy with the things he said, why pull a coach off a tour two or three days before?" said Ambrose.

Eleven days of competition where China dominated the medals table, followed by Britain, Ukraine and the United States, ended yesterday with the last few events, including marathons and wheelchair rugby.

At the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana, Brazilian officials were officially to hand over to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The upbeat mood in Rio was darkened by the death of Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, 48.

The athlete, who wore a prosthesis on his left leg, fell during a mountainous descent in the road race and died before he could be treated in hospital. Philip Craven, the International Paralympic Committee president, called the tragedy "truly heart-breaking."

Nevertheless, Rio was expected to put on a dazzling show at the Maracana, featuring Brazil's rich culture to celebrate a far better Paralympics than many had believed

The Road To Fascism In Just Two Charts

The Road To Fascism In Just Two Charts Submitted by Eugen von Bohm-Bawerk via Bawerk.net,

*Laws of politics have been turned upside down. *The Intellectuals Yet Idiots can make no sense of it. *The underdog who ‘tell it how it is’ appeal to people while established reasoning does not. * Politicians used to pit people against each other and bribe key electoral groupings with the spoils of ‘democratic’ victory to maintain power; well aware that the “…[process] will [only] endure until the day [politicians] discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” From that day onwards, western democracies have been on a slippery slope as the state consumes and redistributes ever more of society’s productive capital. When taxes became exploitative, the state went into debt.* When workers’ real wages stagnated, the central bank subsidized further indebtness.*

Generations of capital accumulation prior allowed this monstrosity to continue for decades; blurring cause and effect. When the debt machine stalled in 2008, people started to feel something was seriously wrong with the system. Political hacks with their old tricks could no longer bribe and lie because people started blaming them for the hardship.* However, years of indoctrination under the auspice of political correctness left the constituency unable to express their feelings. *Self-declared besserwissers with fancy Ph.D. degrees would aggressively strike down on any genuine expressed feeling of unease by branding them as unschooled racists, bigots or simple-minded children. Debt slaves had to accept their lot in society as there were no outlet for them to vent their increasing frustration.* *

*With hindsight, it is obvious that this political and financial pressure cooker would explode, and that is exactly what we are living through right now.* We are definitely on the cusp of a major break with the old; rendering simple extrapolations useless as a forecasting tool.

*Politically the left-right divide is way too narrow. *Thinking inside this box constricts the mind to such an extent that one will be unable to understand what is going on and how this might end.

*The striking ineptitude pundits reveal when trying to analyze today’s political dislocation stems from two simple facts.*

*First, they cannot wrap their head around the fact that some nations apparently drift far left (Spain, Portugal, Italy), while others far right (US, UK, Germany, France) and some in both directions at the same time (Greece). *This is easy to understand when acknowledging that the world is not drifting in various directions, but rather just expressing the same message in different language. This misunderstanding stems from the misguided left-right divide whereby the left is advocates of international socialism while the resurgent right is arguing for the same socialism, but rather for the nation state – national socialism. These two systems are almost identical in their opposition to globalization while zealously favoring centralized control of the national economy. Their message is the same; less global trade, more state spending on national projects. Voters will easily jump from the former to the latter when times turn for the worse.

*The old left-right divide was, and still is, indistinguishable for the open minded. *The following chart attempt to show how we look at the political spectrum. As can be seen, the left-right axis is nothing more than a childish quarrel on which special interest group is entitled to most of the spoils. *This model is broken, consumed by its own greed, and the world of politics is rapidly drifting into good old fascism*. Whether it is in the form of Trump, Clinton, Hollande, Le Pen, CDU, AfD, Podemos or Golden Dawn is not important. *What is important is the fact that this shift is happening under the pretense of some big intellectual battle of good versus evil. It is not. It is pure evil and we are lead astray by the different way of delivering the message.*

*Secondly, the reason why the broader electorate feel left out is the fact that they have lost to global competition*. Asset owners in the west and the middle class in emerging markets have seen their income grow rapidly over the last 20 years, while the middle class in developed markets have not.

*Naturally such grave disparity lead people to conclude it is either the fault of the rich or global competition, when in reality the enormous amount of capital consumption allowed by Keynesian policies is the real culprit.*

Today’s policies are efforts to maintain the old status quo and can only prolong the middle class suffering. This will obviously lead to more political drift that will quell growth and prosperity, calling for increased used of failed policies ad infinitum.

*History teaches us where this will end.* Reported by Zero Hedge 8 hours ago.

Over 2.5 million registered voters across 6 jurisdictions in Florida and one in Arizona leveraged secure and scalable election modernization technology for instant and user-friendly election results of the 2016 State Primary via Scytl Election Night Reporting.

Tampa & Barcelona (PRWEB) September 19, 2016

Scytl, the worldwide leader in election modernization and online voting solutions announces an additional 2.5 million registered voters leveraged the benefits of secure and scalable election modernization technology. Election Officials across 6 jurisdictions in Florida provided voters and political audience real-time access and visualization of the 2016 State Primaries election results. This raises the tally to date to over 27 million voters leveraging Scytl technology during the 2016 US Presidential Primaries.

“Scytl’s technology helped our office post results online in a timely fashion. Streamlined processes and impeccable support are just some of the reasons why we selected all of Scytl’s solutions,” says Kathy Dent, Supervisor of Elections, Sarasota County.

With the increased attention towards the battleground race for seats in the US House and Senate, real-time and instant access to election results during the August 30th primary was of key significance. Scytl Election Night Reporting provided audiences across 6 Florida counties (Miami-Dade, Pinellas, Palm Beach, Sarasota, Martin and Osceola) secure and real-time online access, catering to the scalability required for added interest and online access to election results.

In addition to the support in election results publication in Florida, Yuma County (Arizona) successfully leveraged the newly upgraded Scytl Election Night Reporting technology enabling voters to customize their experience tracking the specific races and detailed precinct data on the results for their State Primary Election.

“We were left in a bind at the last minute. Our previous Election Night Reporting (ENR) was unavailable and we had just 3 weeks to come to a solution,” explains Kevin Tunell, Communications Director, Yuma County Arizona. “Scytl stepped up to the plate and had us up and running in time for the election. Not only that, our ENR has never looked better __title__ Yuma Election Night Reporting]. The technology and support were unexpected. Leading global IT services firm provides new research based on more than 1,000 assessments to help companies recognize third-party compliance gaps and create remediation plans to help ensure data security

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) September 19, 2016

Softtek, founder of the nearshore industry and leading global IT services provider dedicated to creating value through technology, today announced its launch of “The State of Digital Third-Party Risk 2016 – In Partners We Trust,” a new research report that uncovers third-party security vulnerabilities based on methodical and statistical analysis, metrics and trends derived over the course of 2014 and 2015.

“Softtek's report is unique and useful as it takes a broad, data-driven approach to address supplier risk management,” said James Beeson, CISO for a large US Financial Services conglomerate. “This information supplies some excellent insights for organizations to leverage within their supplier security programs. As things become more and more digitized and sharing of data with partners more prevalent, the security risks continue to increase, and understanding the key risk indicators can be extremely valuable in helping to mitigate risk and improve security posture.”

Driven from a sample of 1,236 assessments that included a balance of small, midsize and large suppliers (over $50B in revenue), the report is intended to help companies identify the top risks associated with third parties today, based on their type of service or supplier activity across 14 security domains.

Softtek’s key research findings include:·      The state of third-party compliance based on a dataset of 286 primary controls aligned with ISO 27001
·     Supplier compliance trends in 2015 vs 2014, with a decline of 3.5% when compared to 2014
·     Analysis of compliance and risk levels, with suppliers failing on average between 2 to 3 controls rated at the “Critical” risk level
·     Assessment of best-in-class supplier compliance and benchmark
·     Defined controls to implement successful remediation plans for third parties in order to align to business objectives

“We found that there is a gap that exists in first-hand, hard data reporting for the third-party risk space in today’s increasingly digital world,” said Leonel Navarro, Global Practice Director for Information Security at Softtek and co-author of the report. “The insights and recommendations provided in the report aim to serve as a valuable tool for CIOs and risk leaders, providing actionable guidance that they can integrate into their SRM programs, avoiding the need to heavily invest in performing risk assessments to understand the latest trends.”
